When is Baseball Season?

CMLL's baseball regular season is from March-June. Upper Divisions (Majors, AAA) typically begin practice in early March, weather permitting. Lower Divisions (AA, A, Rookie) and T-Ball teams typically begin practice in mid-to-late March. Coaches will notify players of their team assignments and practice schedule in March.

What Does "League Age" Mean?

"League Age" is the player's age on April 30. For the 2010 season, a player's league age is his or her age on April 30, 2010. Use your player's league age to determine Division eligibility. Refer to the following chart."

Interested in CMLL Post-Season Play in 2010? CMLL competes in Little League Baseball tournaments immediately after the regular season ends. Teams exist for9-12 year old Majors and AAA Division players and are selected from a combination of team Managers, CMLL’s Board, and player evaluations that are typically held in early June. Teams will be announced on June 15, 2010.

9-10 year old All-Star and Honors teams typically practice and/or play scrimmages 5-6 times per week starting June 16 for 2-3 weeks. The teams play a 3-6 game tournament that should end by July 11.

11-12 year old All-Star and Honors teams typically practice and/or play scrimmages 4-6 times per week starting June 16. The teams play a 3-6 game tournament that should end by July 18.

CMLL requires all interested players to sign a letter of commitment. The expectation is players prioritize baseball during the post-season. Please read this letter now and be aware of the dates above if you believe your player may be interested. The dates above and letter of expectation are important to note so that you may avoid conflicts with your summer vacation plans and/or other activities. Post-season play is very competitive baseball, LOTS of fun, and a great experience for all the players. Read more at http://www.cmllonline.org/allstar.htm

Divisions

Baseball
T-Ball

For boys and girls league-age 5 to 6 years old with little or no prior baseball experience. Emphasis is on the basics of throwing, hitting, catching, and learning the basic rules of the game. Players use softer balls and will hit off of a rubber T with the help of a coach. Generally, most kids are ready to move to the next level after one year of Tee-Ball play. Tee-Ball teams are formed with a maximum of 15 players per team. Teams will play and/or practice 2-3 times per week.

Baseball
Rookie

For players league-age 6 to 7 years old. It is strongly suggested that one year of Tee-ball be played before playing rookie league if child is league age 6 years old. Rookie baseball is a transition league from T-ball where kids will learn to hit from a coach pitching to them. No scores are kept. This division is ideal for the 2nd or 3rd year player, and is comprised mostly of league-age 7 year olds. All pitching is done by a coach until the ball is batted. Rookie teams are formed with a maximum of 14. Teams will play and/or practice 2-3 times per week.

Baseball
A Division

For players league-age 7 to 8 years old. Continuation of coach pitch ball in a more competitive environment playing closer to the real rules of baseball. For example, balls and strikes are counted and scores are kept. All pitching is done by the coach. Enhancing baseball fundamentals are the focal point of this Division. Every effort is made to maintain the number of players per team at twelve. Teams will play and/or practice 2-3 times per week.

Baseball
AA Division

For players league-age 8 to 9 years old. This is a transitional level in which both the players and the coaches share the pitching duties. The rules of baseball become more prevalent, for example, all games have umpires; balls and strikes are counted, and base stealing is allowed. Every effort is made to maintain the number of players per team at twelve. Teams will play and/or practice 2-3 times per week.

Baseball
AAA Division

For players league-age 9 to 11 years old. Players must be evaluated prior to the season for basic skills. Players are expected to have played one year at AA. Some players league age 11 may need to continue to play at this Division based on skills, while more skilled league-age 11 players will play at the Majors Division level. Pitching is performed by the players with regular Little League rules of play. Every effort is made to maintain the number of players per team at twelve. Every attempt will be made to continue to match players with “buddies” and preferred manager but no guarantees can be made due to player skill levels and number of players available. Teams will play and/or practice 3-4 times per week.

Baseball
Majors Division

For players league-age 10 to 12 years old. All league age 10 and11 years old must be evaluated prior to the season and must have played one year at AAA level. All league age 12 year old players must play at the Majors level but will also need to attend player evaluations. This is the most competitive level of play with teams organized by “draft” based on the results of the players during evaluations. This means Majors coaches will select their teams during a League draft event from the pool of available Majors players vs. requesting a specific coach and/or friend as done in the lower Divisions. Teams have a maximum of 12 players. Teams will play and/or practice 4-5 times per week with baseball expected to be the child’s primary sport priority during the regular season.

Players will be assigned either to a new CMLL team (s) depending on number of sign-ups, or will be assigned to play with another team from a neighboring Little League such as Tigard, Beaverton, Hillsboro or Murrayhill.
